Weninger
The wines of Franz Reinhard Weninger are among the best in Hungary. He learned the tricks of the trade from his father Franz Weninger, a famous red winemaker from Horitschon in Austria. Around the village of Balf, in the wine-growing region of Sopron, the Weninger family owns 22 hectares of vineyards in two top vineyards. The Steiner vineyard consists of a particularly rare soil of grey slate, which reaches the surface there. The Frettner vineyard consists of mineral-rich weathered slate and brown earth. The main grape varieties are kékfrankos (blaufränkisch), syrah, merlot, pinot noir and féherburgundi (weissburgunder).
Organic viticulture
The Sopron wine region is located in the west of Hungary (on the border with Austria) on Lake Neusiedl. Mainly red wine is produced here. The main grape variety is kékfrankos. Franz Reinhard has been active in the conversion to biodynamic viticulture since 2004.
