Château Gloria

Château Gloria, located in St-Julien, excels in a remarkable price-quality ratio under the leadership of the Triaud family of Domaines Henri Martin. With 50 hectares of vineyards, 65% of which are allocated to the first wine and 20% to the second wine, Gloria offers a unique diversity of terroirs, ranging from deep Gunzian gravel to lighter clay-sand soils. The blend is composed of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot, matured in 40% new oak barrels for 12-14 months, depending on the vintage.

The story of Gloria began in 1939, when Henri Martin, later in charge of Château Latour and President of the CIVB, purchased plots of 1855-classified estates. Spread across three areas – the Beychevelle district, west to Château Lagrange, and bordering Pauillac to the north – Gloria has developed into a distinctive wine with excellent value for money. Under the technical guidance of Rémi di Constanzo (formerly of Cos d’Estournel) and advisor Eric Boissenot, Gloria has steered a consistent and confident course since the 2009 vintage. Château Gloria has opened a remarkable new winery for the 2016 vintage, with modern facilities and stainless steel tanks ranging from 60 to 500 hl.

Château Gloria’s second wine, Château Haut-Beychevelle Gloria, is a promising small family estate, rooted in the early days of the Martin family’s three centuries in St-Julien. With just 5 hectares of gravel, clay and sandy soils, and a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, it offers a supple and fragrant wine after 12 months of maturation in 30% new oak barrels.

Stretching from the Juillac stream to the Jalle (stream) de Beychevelle, St-Julien is known for its deep Gunzian gravel soils, giving it the highest concentration of Cabernet Sauvignon in the region. Although seemingly almost flat, Gloria’s vineyards reveal serious slopes upon closer inspection. Home to eleven classified estates, St-Julien is known for its regular and deep gravel soils. Château Gloria remains a standout choice in St-Julien, where rich fruit structures, great tension and excellent balance and finesse come together, making it a valuable addition to the Bordeaux wine region. The 2019 is a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot. The château considers this vintage, with its ripeness and concentration, as a great vintage with a long life. Expect a very refined bouquet, drinkability, finesse and an enormous length.
